On Sunday (April 13th), the Sidcup U15's rugby team travelled to Folkestone to participate in the Kent 7s tournament, we were one of only six clubs to enter two teams in the competition.
Sidcup 2 faced a tough draw in the pool stage facing reigning champions Canterbury and whilst they fell short of beating Canterbury, they secured runners up in the group moving them into contention for the Bowl.
Sidcup 1 were ruthless in topping their pool, winning every game and moving straight into contention for the Cup.
Both teams played some great rugby, inspired by Colts players Ollie and Stacey who helped to prepare the boys ahead of the event. Both teams progressed through their respective quarter and semi finals to land in the Cup and Bowl finals respectively.
Sidcup 2 was first to play in the Bowl final against a strong Bromley team, they worked hard right to the final whistle securing a 21-12 victory.
Next up was Sidcup 1. After beating rivals Canterbury in the semi-finals, Sidcup 1 faced a strong team from OA's. The game was intense and high-quality, with both teams scoring some great tries. With the scores even late in the game and OA's having scored first, Sidcup needed to pull out something special. And that is exactly what they did! A powerful ruck turnover led to an attack involving the entire team resulting in a try to seal victory 26-19, allowing them to lift the Cup as champions of Kent!
Well done to both Sidcup teams for a cracking performance, adding two more Kent titles to the Sidcup trophy cabinet.
