As the 2025/26 pre-season kicks off, Sidcup RFC is proud to launch an exciting new chapter for its Boys Colts team. At the helm is Sidcup Director of Rugby Chris Jones, who takes the reins with a clear vision: build a squad where players love turning up, feel they belong, and become part of something truly special.
Jonesy is placing a big focus this year on bringing fun back to the game, reminding everyone that rugby is just that, a game, and games are meant to be fun!. With that spirit at the heart of the team, the goal is simple: play hard, support each other, and enjoy the journey.
Jonesy said on his return to the colts
"We're really starting to see the success of lads making that step from junior rugby into senior rugby, and that’s down to the work we’ve all been doing across the club, making sure players understand they’re not just part of a team, they belong to their club. I’m buzzing to get back coaching the Colts – it’s a brilliant part of the rugby journey and I can’t wait to be part of it again."
Supporting is a coaching group built around connection, care, and club culture. Mike Rousell and Pete McKenna return continuing their long journey with both age groups since minis. They’ll be there to support players on and off the field, making sure the environment is one where everyone can thrive. The legend Mark Watson will support the backs, offering structure and creativity, alongside current 1st XV players Seb Ellison and James Fenwick, bringing insight straight from the senior squad.
Players will also benefit from access to top strength & conditioning coach Lee Eldridge, who has created a pre-season training program to support the players and help lay strong foundations for the year ahead.
Jonesy has also pulled together a “Legends Unit”, a part-time crew of Sidcup greats returning to pass on their wisdom:
- Scotty McLean and Keith Forward will be working with the forwards, teaching them the ancient art of bending over and pushing very hard, also known as scrummaging.
- Jack Dutton will be passing on all his lineout knowledge, helping the lads master the fine art of lifting, jumping, and throwing... ideally all in sync!.
- Sam Eydmann takes charge of the inside backs, working on the core skills, catch, pass, decision-making, and generally keeping things ticking over in the middle of the park.
- James Poland and Rich Roddis will be out wide with the outside backs, showing the lads how to run fast with the ball, and who knows, maybe the players can teach those two how to pass and kick in return!
Off the pitch, Zoe Heinzel steps in as team manager and will lead the launch of Sidcup’s first-ever GSD Crew (think PTA just souped-up a level!) a group of parents coming together to support the team through fundraising, events, and creating that all-important Colts culture.
This season is about more than just rugby. It’s about mates, memories, and being part of something bigger than yourself. Whether you're on the pitch or backing the boys from the sidelines, you belong here.
