We entered two teams into this festival based on availability - Caz’s Colts and Ricky’s Rockets!

Both teams put in a sterling performance and we can already see the players developing as they get more game practice. It was lovely to see that Bromley had enlisted the help of former England 7s player & manager, Mike Friday to hand out the medals – he started his career at Bromley as a five year-old, so hopefully may prove to be an inspiration to some of the youngsters just starting out in rugby!

Glenn hosted training at Sidcup for those unable to make the festival or not yet eligible to play, and had a good turnout.

Caz’s Colts – won 2, drew 2
I’m delighted to report that every member of the team got over the tryline! No mean feat for the younger players who’ve come up from the Micros so well done everyone. But I do have to single out our top try scorer of the day, Joe, who scored a stunning 16 tries out of the 30 we scored across the 4 games. His electric pace and awareness of space meant that the opposition rarely got near him, and when they did, Joe made some lovely passes to ensure Sidcup kept the ball and his team mates were able to continue the good work and score tries.

Caz’s Colts started strongly with a 10-2 win over Tunbridge Wells. Joe came out of the blocks firing on all cylinders, scoring 9 tries, and captain for the first half, Darcy also scored a try showing great tenacity, along with some good tagging of opposition players.

Medway proved to be strong opposition in our second game which ended in a 6-6 draw. Javier and Max got on the scoreboard with some strong evasive running, and both were instrumental in helping stop the other team through great chasing and tagging.
Hosts Bromley were also strong opposition in our third game which was a real display of a try for them, a try for us, a try for them! This resulted in another draw but the match could’ve gone either way.

The final game against Westcombe Park saw inexperienced players Leo and George both score tries and show some great tagging skills, including Leo diving to grab tags as the opposition tried to get away!

Well done everyone – I am so proud of you, and hopefully you all enjoyed the festival. Also, a big thanks to J (Leo’s dad) for helping round up the team, keeping note of the scores etc.

Ricky’s Rockets
You could compare the Rockets results to the weather on Sunday, started a little chilly but turned out to be a lovely day.
The first game in our group was against a strong Old Elthamians team who caught us on the back foot and beat us 7-4. We then went on to play Old Elthamians 2nd team, which we played the week before at the Foxbury Festival, and were told by their coach that when his players realised they would be playing us again, they desperately wanted to beat us. Old Elthamians applied the pressure and Sidcup were trailing 4 – 6 at half time to end the game level at 9-9. A great example of determination and never giving up. Our next game was against a new team for the under 7’s, Tunbridge Wells who applied the pressure and an amazing end to end game and a well-deserved 8-8 draw.

For me, our best game was our last one against the Festival holders Bromley. From start to finish the boys played as a team, some great running from Sam, support play from both Keir and Lewis, tagging from Eddie and Louis and Elliot’s desire to win shone through. As an example of how well they played as a team, 5 tries from 5 different players with some great tagging throughout. My player of the day was……the whole team, thanks Sam, Keir, Lewis, Eddie, Louis and Elliot for making it a great day and again for the support of Darren, and the parents.

Results:
Sidcup 4 v Old Elthamians (A) 7
Tries from: Eddie (2), Louis (1), Elliot (1).
Sidcup 9 V Old Elthamians (B) 9
Tries from: Elliot (7), Eddie (1), Sam (1).
Sidcup 8 v Tunbridge Wells 8
Tries from: Lewis (4), Keir (2), Elliot (2).
Sidcup 5 v Bromley 2
Tries from: Sam (1), Elliot (1), Keir (1), Lewis (1), Louis (1)

A big thank you to all the players and parents for a great team effort!
