Sidcup U7s had a fantastic start to their first "competitive" season, playing in the spirit of the game and showing some great champagne rugby.

Out of the 12 games played we won 9, drew 2 and lost 1, with a staggering 93 tries scored in total. Top try scorers were Oliver with 14, and Elliot and Stanley with 11 each.

We entered three teams into the festival, which meant every child eligible to play could enjoy the experience on a beautiful sunny day.

Caz's Colts (Sidcup 1) - won 2, drew 1 and lost 1.
Four players made their festival debut. Max and George scored 3 tries each, showing flair for attacking the line and also tagging well. Zoe and James performed strongly in support of more experienced players, with James also scoring a lovely try.

More experienced players Javier, Daniel, Sam Barton and Alfie combined well with the inexperienced players to score tries with some storming runs through the opposition defence. All 4 really got stuck in to chase down the opposition and tag them.

The team put in a spirited performance in a very tough last game against Westcombe Park who were possibly the strongest opposition in our group with a tenacious tagging team. At one point we were camped on their line and this needs a special mention for Daniel, Sam, and Javier who never gave up and kept working hard without losing the ball to ensure they got over for a try.

Big thanks to my beautiful assistants Pete (James's dad) and Ian (Zoe's dad) for helping round up the team, keep the scores/scorers, running the line and time-keeping, and parents for their support.

Photos: Apologies to James and Alfie who'd already left when we took these. We are all still learning as we go so will take team photos at the beginning next time.

Ricky's Rockets (Sidcup 2) had a 100% record, with 4 wins out of 4, and 37 tries scored!!
Tough high scoring games against Dartfordians and the Festival holders Old Elthamians winning by only one try. With more comfortable wins against Old Colfeians and Westcombe Park.

It's hard to pick out a single player, as a team we played really well and the boys did everything I asked of them. Thanks to Elliot, Sam, Lewis, Keir and Oliver for proving a solid base to the team and a special mention to Dylan for his dazzling run, hopefully a glimpse of what we can expect going forward and a call out to the quietest player on the pitch but with an amazing tagging ability, Louis.

Special thanks to Darren for helping to organise the team and the parents for their support.

Glenn's Wallabies (Sidcup 3) 3 wins and 1 draw
Well done to my Wallabies for their efforts yesterday. They drew upon the spirit of their namesakes and came away leaving us very impressed with their efforts the on-field results were a bonus. From a coach's viewpoint, Jon noted (and I agree with these comments):

"As this was the first festival for many of the players, I thought the day was a great success. The team interacted well and the spirit and support that they gave to each other was a pleasure to watch. The way they approached the games was positive and each game was played in a very good spirit and very much within the rules and the ethics of rugby. Again, a pleasure to see from those so young. The highlight for me was certainly beating Westcombe Park a first for me in 20+ years of trying!"

Behind the excellent teamwork was plenty of individual effort. Leo had some great diving tags, William noticed (and filled) gaps in the defence, Thomas was a great tagger, Mason and Eddie got some good tries and Stanley twice scored 4 tries in a game (total 11 over the four games). Whilst everyone played really well, I'd especially like to highlight Darcy and Joe who were everywhere in attack and defence. Well played all!

Photos: Apologies to Mason as he'd left already.
