Success in the sun for Sidcup U9s at the Bromley festival, as they win the Bowl Trophy. After a long delay the Bowl final was underway as both teams competed in what was to be a great display of U9 contact rugby.

Beccehamians proved the stronger team in the first half, scoring two great tries and without some amazing defending by Sidcup on our own try line the score line would have been even greater. This left Sidcup with an almost impossible mountain to climb in the second half as they trailed 0-2.
Sidcup re-started the second half with an immediate response scoring their first try as they exploded through the Beccs defence. Now looking a far more resilient side, having regained their shape the momentum had clearly swung in our favour and moments later we scored another fabulous try to level the game. With only minutes left to play, the tension was intense as both teams battled hard to be the victor, but both were equal to the challenge. The ref blew his whistle and awarded a scrum to Beccs well inside the Sidcup half and announced "final play". Beccs very cleverly moved the ball out wide and as their player sprinted down the right wing with three Sidcup players desperate in pursuit, the game looked to have slipped away, but a late perfectly timed surging side on tackle from the Sidcup Scrum Half - no less than a meter from the try line as the Beccs players started reaching down to place the ball and score what looked a certain try - drove the Beccs player into touch and knocking on the ball in the process.

With the full time score Sidcup 2 - Beccs 2, the rules stated that extra time should be played with sudden death. Beccs won the toss and with it the advantage of starting extra time in possession. Straight from the restart Beccs surged forward, but as they entered into Sidcup's half were quickly meet by a very determined and solid wall of Sidcup defenders. Beccs moved the ball about, but struggled to make any ground. A pass to a Beccs player who received the ball but was immediately driven backwards with another thumping tackle, forcing a knock on and an all important Scrum to Sidcup just inside their own half. As the Sidcup Scum Half collected the ball at the back of the scrum, he glanced up and noticed the smallest of gaps ahead of him and decided to make a break for it. Swiftly followed by his team mates, he majestically carved through the Beccs defence with defenders hanging off him like tag belts to score a magnificent individual try and seal a great victory for his team - well done Sidcup U9s and Thank you Beccs U9s for a great game.
