SRFC U10 4 - 6 Old Allaynians

As the layers came off and the sun beamed down as we have become accustomed at the Foxbury festival, it was time to blow away the cobwebs and play some competitive rugby against some old friends & rivals. First up was Colfes and our boys quickly showed how much they had missed playing as they put in an impressive 7-1 win. The Colfes coach was impressed and commented on how much we must have worked and drilled the players over the summer!
Tackling & Team work was the orders for the day and the team certainly delivered on both, it was great to see the tries being scored by the wingers & centre, a good indication that they are functioning as a team and understanding their roles. Next up was Westcombe Park and although we gave away 2 easy tries the players battled back and applied a lot of pressure for a well deserved 4-3 victory. The 3rd game was a reality check as we struggled to dominate as we had done with conviction in the two previous games and Beccs walked away with a comfortable 0-3 win. The last group game was against the unbeaten hosts and with only the top two teams from the group progressing to the finals, the players were told this was now a semi-final game and for them to stand any chance of reaching a final today, they had to win. After a great first half in a very closely contested game the score was tied at 1-1. OE’s got the first try in the 2nd half and it looked like the game was slipping away, but Sidcup dug deep and showed that great resolve that they seem to muster up when they really need it and after a lot of pressure from us the scores were soon level again. The momentum was with Sidcup now and we used it well to keep the pressure on OE’s and a late try earned a massive victory over our local rivals, Sidcup 3-2 OE’s. This left the group with Becc’s, OE’s & Sidcup all on the same points with 3 wins and 1 loss and after a short wait it was announced on the loud speak that Beccs won the group and would play Sevenoaks in the Cup final & Sidcup would play Old Alleynians in the Plate final – horary!!!

Allaynians were a well drilled team and proved too strong for Sidcup in the 1st half. With the score 1-4 at half time the players received a stern talking too which they responded to immediately in the 2nd half, the momentum had totally swung in Sidcups favor as they again dug deep and began to ask questions of their opponents and put them under pressure. In the end Allaynians looked pleased to see the final whistle go and a few more minutes may have seen a different result. However, they did hold on and finished worthy winners – Sidcup 4-6 Old Allaynians.

Well done Sidcup U10s, you made us all very proud today. A fantastic start to the season!!

Some great individual displays, but more importantly a solid team performance.
Lets keep up the good work, as we look forward to our home Henry Dowswell Festival in a few weeks time.
