Top of the Table (again!)

The run of 5 festivals finally comes to an end and I think its fair to say that we have improved week on week and finished a much stronger team. Everyone has made an improvement and the effort has been outstanding. Twice this week, coaches form another team came over to congratulate us on our team performance. It’s great to see that people are noticing that we are a much tougher opposition now and again we finished top of the table.

Sidcup Vs Old Alleynians Lost 2-1

This is the one that got away! We lead from the off, with Draven scoring the first of his many try’s after an amazing side step. We held that lead right up until the last minute. Sadly we then gifted two try’s, the second of which came after a blatant high tackle which when unpunished. That aside, it was a good performance but we lacked a bit of aggression in the last few minutes.

Sidcup Vs Tonbridge Juddians Won 4-0

TJ’s saw us up our game a notch further with a series of passes shipping the ball away from the opposition and into the hands of Dan and Draven to score the points. The fight was back and we were hungry for more try’s. In the second half we eased up a little, the highlight was Sam’s chip and chase which but for an unlucky bounce of the ball would have seen him scoring. Our defence held strong and we finished a respectable 4-0.

Sidcup Vs Bromley Won 4-0

Bromley saw us continue in the same fashion, however this time out we were smarter and didn’t throw as many risky passes and trusted the team to recycle the ball and go again. Frank got his revenge with a length of the pitch try to make up for being denied against them at their home festiaval. Further try’s from Draven and Tom sealed a solid victory. Special thanks goes to Kai who manfully stepped in to help the game continue by joining the Bromley team for a bit. Thanks Kai.

Sidcup Vs Beccehamians Won 1-0

This turned out to be a close fought match with the home team saving their best performance for last. We probably should have won my more points but a combination of dodgy reffing and tiredness kept us to a 1-0 victory. The boys kept working till the end and Draven was denied a second try at the death.

All in all another great effort form the boys. Josh causing havoc with the ball in hand and creating so much space outside, Jonathan with a strong organisational performance, giving us the shape we needed, some big hits from Jay giving us great forward momentum, Owen and Billy coming up with some quick passing and Ollie sucking in defenders and looking after the ball.Well done everyone!
As a coaching team we are very happy with the progress so far and are looking forward to the next run of training to improve even further.
