Sidcup U12's winners at Etihad Cup Qualifiers

ETIHAD FESTIVAL

The U12's were raring to go having had numerous games called off in January and a highly competent performance saw them winning all their games to cruise through to the Grand Final. The day panned out as follows;

GAME 1 - Trojans – Won 2-1.

A quick glance at Trojans website shows that their U12’s have carried all before them this season winning various tournaments in the process. This was therefore a tough assignment but Sidcup took to their task with relish and in a tremendous first half display turned around two tries to the good with scores from Isaac Ayliffe (returning from injury) and Joseph Leigh. Trojans were too good a side to roll over and they came back strongly through their ‘lumpy’ pack. This led to one close range try being scored by one of their props but other than that Sidcup snuffed out their comeback to win the game 2-1. An excellent all round performance with the pack really fronting up and the backs passing the ball (enough said!).

GAME 2 – New Milton – Won 1-0

This was a much more comfortable victory than the single score suggested. Sidcup scored a cracking try early in the second half with the ball passing through various hands following an outstanding break from Ethan Nightingale with Jack Dash finishing things off as usual. Other than that the game was largely a refereeing master class from the Scottish official. The game did somewhat become one long scrum with the referee passing on instructions such as ‘keep your bind long’ etc. to the puzzled contestants. In the circumstances (we were down a player for an indiscretion in the previous match) the boys did well and dint look troubled.

GAME 3 – Old Guildfordians – Won 3-0 A clinical performance with Sidcup progressing to the grand final with tries from Luis Smith (yeeha), Billy Hally and Joseph Leigh.

Played three and won three was a just reward for a hard working Sidcup side who were:

Joseph Leigh –Two tries and team leader. Lesson learnt. Billy Hally –Outstanding sniping scrum half performance. Ryan Powell –If it moves he will knock it over. Luis Smith – The tank. Debut try! Jack Davenport – Solid and dependable. Jess Fergusan – Best outing yet. We won some lineouts!! Jonathan Cain – always in support. Rufus – Dogged it out! A great all round effort in the tight. Ethan Nightingale – All the makings of a great flyhalf. Reece Novo – Crash ball centre. Isaac Ayliffe – Welcome back. Outstanding in defence. Jack ‘Dash’ Smith – Class in a glass. Barney ‘Rubble’ – What a performance for someone who took up rugby this year. Sam Jinks – Was there for us when we needed him and didn’t let us down. Bruno – Strong Reece Page – mobile Josh and Alfie – Part of the team.
