BROMLEY FESTIVAL

The U12's attended the Bromley Festival and over the course of the day the team really began to find its feet;

GAME 1 - Beccehammians - Lost 3-1. Sidcup competed well throughout against the winners of the Foxbury Festival the previous week. Beccehamians have only had one addition to their squad from last year and showed what a difference a good coach can make! That said we showed we are not far away at all and with a bit more organisation and fitness there is nothing to stop us challenging Beccs in the future.

GAME 2 – Old Alleynians – Lost 4-2. Sidcup again competed well going 1 up but thereafter the tide turned with the game ending in a deserved win for OA’s. The amount of moaning from their boys and coaches about our so called physical approach was disappointing as we have always been a fair side. That said at least they knew they had been in a game.

GAME 3 – Tunbridge Wells – Drew 1-1. With the odds stacked against Sidcup they took the field against the Kent champions having been told that anything short of a full team effort was likely to result in a hammering. The size of the Tunbridge Pack raised questions as to what they are feeding them in the Royal town and whether we could have some. But then something happened we started playing as a team! The pack ran around the field and hit rucks and mauls, the backs passed the ball, the whole team tackled and Sidcup showed that when they do this they can live with the best. In the end it was a 1-1 draw and with Sidcup being ‘held’ up over the line there was no reason we couldn’t have got a deserved victory.

GAME 4 - Bromley - Won 7-0 – Sidcup carried on from where they left off in the previous match with a confidence boosting win (and first try for Reece Page!) which meant the day had ended well with the team standing up to be counted and beginning to find its own voice. This is their last year of mini rugby with full pitches next year and ultimately it is this progression that we are looking for.

A positive day and lots to be optimistic about given that we really have a fledgling side and can improve so much as the season progresses.
