Great all round display continues good weekend for SRFC

Report from Lee “Dickens” Ashby

Sidcup “U13 Lions” today made their way to Beccehamians, where in the past these games have proven to be a closer run thing. The Lions started the match slightly downhill with the sun in their eyes.

It wasn’t long before it became evident that Sidcup’s forwards has the measure of their counterparts. Driving runs from Murat, Max and Josh proved too much for the Beccehamians forwards who succumbed to an early Murat charge. Sidcup choosing to keep the ball amongst the forwards took advantage of their power and Murat bustled forward to score another try.

When the ball did make its way out to the backs, Sidcup showed much promise with quick hands and the odd miss pass showing great creativity and imagination.

Today’s man of the match, Zeka playing his first game at Full back, showed great positioning and support play, and was rewarded with a fine try out on the left wing.

Beccehamians rallied but their attempts at mounting an attack were met with strong Sidcup tackling in all areas, although the standout tackle goes to Zeka, faced with a charging mountain of a forward he stood his ground and sent his opponent crashing to the turf.

Draven, so often left lonely on the wing in the past, took advantage of the fine passing of his backs teammates and ran in 2 tries before half time.

The second half started differently, Sidcup seemed lacking in energy and Beccehamians sought to claw one back, but Sidcup remained stubborn and resolute coming together in numbers to make vital tackles.

Sidcup slower in moving forward, still stayed on the front foot and Josh W got his head down and burrowed one in the far left corner. Well done on your first try for Sidcup young man.

Beccehamians, now tiring, were unable to cope with Sidcups back line passing and Max DL drew his opposing player in and made a fine offload to Draven who ran his third try in. On another day Max could’ve had a couple himself but was (correctly) pinged for a slightly high hand off and not grounding the ball, both times after typical strong runs.

A great team effort and a thoroughly deserved victory. Well done to everyone involved and thank you to the parents for their support and post match oranges / bananas !!
