The weather is turning and a promise of a fare weather day brings a smile to the parents faces , only be met with a bighting wind and cloud. thats 7s...

THE WEATHER FORCAST IS FOR A BRIGHT SUNNY DAY, but we were at Canterbury and for those who have played here before will know its a tad exposed..
we were drawn in a group with Cranbrook, Medway, Charlton park and Dartfordians. with sidcup drawing our first game , i start to thing i may have underestimated the tactics here today.

with out going into too much detail we were playing without a few key players and this came to highlight a few fragile tendencies in the side, taking full responsibly for the selection we had little variety in the side. Although WE played very well, injuries to sol and will w sidelining them early on and a knee to the head for Dan seeing him nearly carried off! Only to return after the ice pack worked its wonders the side showed its naivety in the face of some pretty average attacks.
We started playing Cranbrook and believe it or not sees a exciting 0-0 draw, Sidcups ferocious tackling keeping them in the game but some very poor handling seeing them failing to cross the line.

Next up is Medway with the Medway side running in 3 tries to one a score line that didn’t flatter Medway as sidcup loose there way with some missed tackles. Charlton park were a big side but the lack of a large junior section sees them having to accept a lesson in running rugby , then Dartfordians a large side but they struggled to develop any cohesion and sidcup stronger running takes it toll on our neighbours.

With some indifferent performances we find our way somewhat surprisingly through to the cup quarter finals. ?? But our run was not long as we draw Old Es and fail way short of a superior running side.
All in all a good day, lessons learnt for the coaches and kids but we chose the wrong tactics for the day simple as that. The boys tried hard but we didn’t really give them too much help in training and my knowledge of 7s is pretty slim too,so lets put that game away till next season. Ha ha ?

My thanks to Canterbury RFC , who run this festival with great ease and relaxed attitude that made the whole day flow seamlessly , great refereeing that made the whole day a breath of fresh air.
Well done guys .
