A chill wind blows down at Blackheath for our hasterly arranged fixture..

Blackheath’s training ground at Eltham is pretty impressive. But on this cold dark day it was not very welcoming. The boys rolled up as usual but it was pretty apparent that we would have to deal with more than the opposition as our squad started to shiver with cold. We tried to warm up and keep the boys on there toes but the looks of chill run through at least 50% of the squad..
Speaking to the Blackheath coach they had not been playing and had built up the squad and training in readiness for the season after some indifferent results. We started with a strong line-up although missing a fly half today but we should have this covered. The Blackheath side came out and looking at them they looked in pretty good shape, the first 20 was with the sidcup side but we had to fight had just to keep parity, it was very apparent that the Blackheath side had put in the work over the past few weeks as they looked very well drilled and hungry for the win. The whistle goes and with a couple of tries we lead as a good pick up and drive by Fraser saw him touchdown for the first of our tries then luke drives through the midfield to score form the halfway line , Dan slots one of the two conversions.
The second 20 and we make whole sale changes and this would lead us to see a few of our new guys on the pitch. This 20 was all Blackheath as our team had to pull together and cover some missed tackling through the team, the Blackheath team pepper the sidcup line and eventually smash over by their scrum half, it was apparent that no one wanted to take ownership of the ball in this half and again they move the ball from a scrum to go over in the corner to score their second try.
The third 15 was indifferent with a stronger side and parity was then achieved, a stalemate occurs with tackle on tackle in midfield but then a break by there winger see him under the posts only to drop the ball over the line, in short sidcup should have lost this game but actually won 10/12, a win is a win but with Kent looming large the Blackheath side seam to be peaking at the right time. Although the cold did affect the team the boys looked tired and sluggish in the heavy conditions with only a few good performances to note, both Luke’s looked lively in the back line and both Harrisons up front gave good support to sol, jack and will W.
Next week we are away to East Grinstead.
