THE FORECAST IS NOT GOOD BUT THE WEATHER GODS ARE KIND TO US AND THE EXPECTED SNOW STAYS AWAY LEAVING A FINE BUT FREEZING COLD DAY...

The ground looks a little damp and under foot maybe a little to soft but free from rain and the forecast snow ! Edenbridge have been on our fixture list for a number of year and we are keen to keep the fixture going for a few more years yet as we usually have a hard fort contest.
Getting around the M25 down the A25 to the Edenbridge ground is not the easiest journey in our calendar but we arrive on a bitterly cold Sunday morning with a strong squad. Our intention was to play both A and B squads as we are trying different combinations at present so here we go and lets see.
Our young referee starts the game and Edenbridge start and kick to the sidcup side , we have picked a fairly strong team to start and so it we transpire , the forwards start the game with fire and with the ball spinning out from Brandon the new fly half trial period begins , Sam put the back line away down the left after a good tackle and quick ruck the back line moves right and the strong centers break with Luke R scoring with a fine run.
The boys are strugglering with the cold but they keep their shape in defence and attack, Edenbridge have a pretty big pack but the sidcup pack are taking them apart in the loose and tight with the front row dominant in the scrum tacking one against the head and forcing their loose head off to go to uncontested scrums but the Edenbridge boys keep their composure. With our large back line running amock we look to make some changes early before half time , mainly to keep the boys warm and after a strong start with tries from Luke , Luke and Sam we change the complete back line and front row , scrum half and 8.
The new look side start a little tentatively and with the odd missed tackle give Edenbridge some confidence and there large pack start to run at our line and score a deserved try equalled with a strong run in from josh fen as we finish the half 26-5 with Dans boot getting better every week as he slots 2 difficult conversions.
The side reverts to the first starting line up as we kick off the second, the dominance of the early game is now restored and after Luke ,Sam and H all cross the line Edenbridge line but the best return was from Sol returning a KO down the line to score in the corner which calls for change again , the Edenbridge side find a little gem to run the pack and back line around a little a scrum half appears and after a pick up and break crosses the sidcup line for their second try , we KO but the renewed vigour of the scrum half sees the sidcup side take a step back and after some sleepy work at a penalty they score again.. The sidcup back line awakes and josh Fenn breaks through the line showing some great pace to score again. The game finishes with sidcup happy with there days work even though they let 3 tries in which is a little lapse.
The coaches did intend to use the game to try a few new combinations and so we did, a few things to work on in training as the concentration lapsed at times, so still work in process..
Good points were Sam at fly, Dan at full back, Luke on the wing, will at prop. The game was a good work out for the boys and they managed to keep warm unlike the parents and coaches on this bitterly cold day, some strong running by jack, Zak, Alfie, Lee white getting one and Dan slotting four conversions making the game well worth the visit and watching through the cold.

Many thanks to Edenbridge for their great hospitality and warm welcome.

Next up home to Park house..
