The first game of the year becons for the sidcup squad.

A new dawn for the Shootershillians youth team come to the for as they invite the sidcup 13s for a fixture , although Larry has reiterated that his team is very raw I was keen to take my hole squad to this first fixture of the new year, we intend to mix our large squad and play all together but how can we make sure the fixture is a far contest , the sidcup side was limited to carrying the ball a maximum of 5 meters / not something the sidcup boys were very keen on I can assure you. Any player ignoring this rule and they were immediately subbed harsh but far for this exercise.
Shoots start the game and sidcup immediately take the ball on with the side adhering to the 5 m rule but the boys start to bypass this rule by pop passing and looping round. A strong first 15 mins put sidcup 2 tries up with Dan master and Harrison Britton opening up the scoring Dan taking one conversion. We keep changing the side with regular rolling subs are the order of the day , the front row goes off and another comes on , the union of Eoin , Will beck and Joel take there place with Alfie , George and Fraser making way . The center partnership of josh and Zak are working well linking the wings of Levi and lee. But Luke S playing at full back makes a break and runs 35 m to score he is immediately replaced for breaking the 5m rule. Oh dear …. The forwards are playing well but still missing the odd tackle seeing the shoots eight making the odd break but sidcup close out the first half with a further tries.
Second half sees Dan make way for Sam at fly half , Luke comes on at outside center and joe on the wing , Harrison crisp comes on for HB , and off we go again , a scrum on the hlf way line sees the shoots 8 pick and go driving the wing out and the line beacons but Dan Masters now playing at full back covers around 60 yards across field to tackle the strong player 5m short of our line, one word springs to mind "Immense".
The game closes out with Sidcup scoring some good tries with free flowing rugby but also seeing Luke josh and Alfie all being replaced for taking liberties with the 5m ball carrying rule. The game ends with sidcup holding out for another clean sheet this season and very happy start to the New Year.
I would be happy to add with a new fixture in the making. Many thanks to Larry and all at shoots for their great hospitality and sportmanship. I wish Shoots all the very best for the rest of the season as Larry and his team needs the support of the local clubs to develop there squad and with time i have no doubt this side will develop into a fine team.
Next week we at away at Edenbridge so up early for the drive into Sussex.
