Sidcup against our old rivels Beccs .??

A slight miscommunication and Sidcups game was thought to be off due to the frozen pitch when we arrived at sparrows den , after a quick sortie I find the Beccs coach and we agree to give it 1 hour to see how the ground fairs out in the bright sunshine. After a hour and the coaches and referee convene to make agree the ground is ok the play. With a few cry offs in mid week we have a pretty good squad so expectation of a good game were very high, how wrong we can be…
A good first half see some good runs by both teams although sidcup seam to be a little nervous and the ball spilling from the hand is something we are not used to this year. A few more runs and instead of incisive running we are going sideways ? Has someone given them a game plan the coaches don’t know about? Beccs start a phase of forward dominated rugby , pick and go ,pick and go with some good ground being made , a collision between the 2 8s and sidcup pack leader leaves the field with a injury to his shoulder this could be trouble as our other 8 had a argument with a tree at school. We now only have only two back rows on the pitch so dan buckley come off the bench to partner matt stock and jack moore moves to the back row at 8 for the first time. Beccs get a quick scrum ball and go wide to there winger who skips inside through some poor tackling by the sidcup side a score a well worked try to close out the first half 5-0.
The first half ends with some bewilderment for the coaches as our wingers are struggling to cope one with a bad cold the other with only what can be a touch of nerves! Our centres and fly half are all out of position I am now worried but happy to see the half time whistle.
Guys what’s going on! A few choice words but the side seams a little shell shocked,is it the cold or the loss of some experience boys from the side taking its toll.? We are ok, we can play well, come on you will have to step up without them. Oh dear, not the greatest team talk ever by me how wrong I was.
With some personal changes Sam C come into the fly half and we just move the players out by one lee comes off , luke S drops back to full back, THAT’S FINE or should have been.
The second half starts with sidcup playing the sort of rugby from 3 years ago “ bees and honey pot” spring to mind , the less said about the rest of the game the better if it wasn’t for the superb efforts of cover tackling from Dan masters, sol usher ,jack more and will W this game could have been a cricket score , we lost all shape and with the set piece slipping into the dyer. Levi, Gus and langa all made appearances however brief. I cant make excuses for the days performance as the sidcup side played their worst game of the season so far why ,I don’t know why but we will pick the bones out of it on Wednesday. Well played by the Beccs side and thanks for the hospitably showed yet again. we Still havnt beaten Beccs in 4 seasons, is this our hoodoo team.//
Our skipper kept on and tried his best but couldnt get pick the side off the floor.
We just didn’t click today, so lets put this game in the brain bank,,but thats rugby for you..
