2nd September saw the return of rugby for Sidcup RFC

Written by Louis ‘Screech’ Keeley

2nd September saw the return of rugby for Sidcup RFC, with the 1’s playing their first London Premier game away against Southend RFC, and the 2’s playing the same fixture. All aboard the coach for a trip to the seaside with a birthday boy treating the lads to some pre match doughnuts, what a bloke.

Most of the pre-match team talk was dominated by reflections on last season, and how well the 2’s had done by working hard, sticking together, and most of all winning. Captain Coops was quick to explain that there is no reason why this years 2’s shouldn’t aim for more of the same.

The opening exchanges saw Sidcup gain an advantage of shifting the ball quickly and offloading where possible, (little too late for a daiquiri machine, but good nonetheless) which put Aaron Patterson away in the corner on numerous occasions for a first half hat-trick on his first coach journey.

In truth a well drilled Sidcup team were too strong for Southend on this occasion, and the pace the game was played at appeared too much for Southend to cope with, 11 try’s were scored before the final whistle in a game that had the ref struggling to match Sidcup’s fitness levels and the author struggling to remember what actually happened in the game to write this report.

Some people had a wilder coach journey home than others, notable mentions to Nick Gilbert for once again proving his worth as a plumber, and Dee for making his way onto Coshy's snapchat story for his inability to walk in a straight line on or off the pitch.

Try’s this weekend were from Sam Adams, Derayo Adetosoye(Dee), Aaron Patterson x 3, Andre Patterson, Sam Leek x 2, Charlie Warner, Coshy Osborn, Louis Keeley, with a culmination of Seb Ellison and Stevie Macdonald adding extras.

71-5. Good start for Cup.
