The Sidcup 2nd team headed to Dulwich on Saturday the 30th of September to play Old Alleynians. Without a cloud in sight the weather was set for a glorious day of running rugby. Following some questionable breakfast and parking, the players prepared for the game ahead.
The whistle went and Sidcup started strong. Following some great phase play within the first few minutes, Connor Cooper to his surprise found himself striding through a hole in the midfield and scoring a try. Old Alleynians responded well and consistent pressure forced Sidcup to give away two penalties gifting Old Alleynians three points making the score 7- 3.
Old Alleynians continued to play well and established a foothold in Sidcup’s half for the next 20minutes. Multiple penalty offensives saw Sidcup go down to 14 men with Jonathan Brunt sent to the sin bin. A missed penalty and a dropped pass from 5 meters out unfortunately for Old Alleynians meant they were unable to turn this pressure into any points.
Sidcup then found another gear and began to command the game with penalties beginning to swing their way. A great lineout play from 15m out saw Chris Orford turbo his way in for Sidcup’s second try. The half time whistle went with Sidcup leading 12-3.
The second half was a one sided story, Sidcup proved themselves to be the fitter and better drilled team scoring another 4 tries without a response from Old Alleynians. The tries came from Stevie Evans, Glen Ennals, George Kimble and Brandon Johnson. Special mention goes to the Sidcup forward pack as they played brilliantly with lock Stevie Evans deservingly earning man of the match. Sebastian Ellison hit 4 conversions making the final score 36 – 3 to Sidcup.
