Sidcup secured victory over the division's bottom club but the win comes at a cost

The game started with the home side taking an early lead. Winning their own scrum they moved the ball out to put in the winger on the overlap, with the kick missed Staines led 5-0.

Sidcup replied with a George Montgomery penalty and then took the lead when Jack Berry picked up a loose ball and broke down the centre of the pitch, slipped an inside pass to the supporting Steven Evans who touched down. Montgomery kicked the extras for Sidcup to lead 5-10 with 10 minutes played.

The next ten minutes saw Staines reduce the deficit with a penalty of their own 8-10, and Sidcup centre Berry being helped off and replaced by Ben Ibrahim.

The Sidcup backs were creating some good moves, none more so than when winger James Poland came in field, ran a good line but forgot to take the ball with him yet it wasn't long before another score was made. Sidcup won ball at the lineout, moved it to Ibrahim who drew in defenders and slipped a pass out to left wing Lee Woollard to score in the corner, Montgomery kicked from wide out the lead now 8-17.

The penalty count against Staines was now mounting and it was only a matter of time before one was in kicking distance, with this happening Montgomery obliged with the kick, 8-20.

With half time approaching Ibrahim made another strong break this time scoring in the corner himself, Montgomery this time hitting the post with the conversion so at the break Sidcup led 8-25.

The 2nd half started with Sidcup loosing skipper Peter Grayson with a hand injury being replaced by Dave Driscoll, Steven Evans assuming the captaincy. Evans and fellow 2nd Row Donal Nevin, were dominant in the lineout on both teams' throw, centres Ibrahim and Dickie Day were full of running and Poland was continuing to run excellent lines but Sidcup had to wait 20 minutes for their next score. Quick thinking at the lineout saw hooker Steven Duffus throw to Tom Page at the front, receive the pass back and stroll down the line unopposed for the score, again Montgomery hit the upright, 8-30. This was Page's last action as he was replaced by Alex Isaacs.

With half an hour gone we saw the try of the game. Sidcup stole the lineout, moved the ball through the backs to Day who fed Poland on the wing, with space running out he managed to loop his pass around the covering defender back to the supporting Day to score, the kick missed 8-35.

The last 5 minutes saw Sidcup's 6th and final try. Ibrahim's long pass was taken in stride by Montgomery who traded passes with Woollard to score, Sidcup had won 8-40.

Sidcup recorded their seventh win of the season with a six try, bonus point victory to move to 5th in the table, the win though coming at a cost with the news that Grayson (hand), Berry (knee) and Day (wrist) will all be missing for the foreseeable few weeks.

Team: Page (Isaacs), Duffus, Carmen, S Evans, Nevin, Elliott, Grayson(c)(Driscoll), Eiffert, Vincent, Montgomery, Poland, Berry(Ibrahim), Day, Woollard, Hardy.
