The arse went one way, the ball went the other!!!

After a lengthy break Sidcup's Super 3s were keen to play, well sort of.
This week's opponents, Maidstone, gave us one of our toughest games so far at their home ground. Those involved in that game knew this would be no stroll in the park.
As usual our pre-game routine was on the barely alive side of relaxed, unusually however Sidcup got into the game from the kick off.
Strong carries from the forwards  and centres resulting in Maidstone being put on the back foot. There was a buzz about the team that had been missing in recent games.
Maidstone, struggling to live with the fluency of the game inevitably gave away penalties. After an awful effort from distance threatening the corner flag, skipper Cosh knocked over a simple penalty, 3-0.
Sidcup continued to apply pressure and force mistakes from the opposition, the return of Billy Steele ensuring the lineout fired again. After a signature 2 ball catch at the lineout an organised maul drove towards the Maidstone line. 6 metres out Cosh noticed they had left noone covering the blindside and darted (more like a trundle these days) over for Sidcup's first try. 8-0
The weather then took a turn for the worse, pretty much taking the quality of the game with it!
Sidcup played the conditions intelligently and secured more good ball deep in their opponent's half. The ball was moved to the right and after some interplay between forwards and backs, Aaron Patterson scored in the corner. 13-0
After a poor kick chase Maidstone span the ball wide, impressively well in the conditions, exploiting the overlap and scoring in the corner. 13-5
Sidcup turned round at half time 8 points to the good, having played uphill and against the wind.
The 2nd half was an attritional affair, Sidcup using the wind to pin Maidstone back, Maidstone attempting to run themselves out of trouble.
Sidcup's lack of fitness was starting to tell, both in attack and defence. On the few occasions Sidcup did put together sustained attacks Maidstone again infringed and Cosh slotted 2 penalties from 3 attempts. 19-5
Now Maidstone's pack was struggling as well and Sidcup's players cut-out the errors.
Then it came, the moment of the match, if not the season thus far!!!
Cup's pack mounted an attack, hitting close to the ruck, Cosh span the ball wide to Watson, who in the most nostalgic of manners, sold the Maidstone backline an outrageous dummy. Taking opportunity of the huge gap (had to be huge for his arse to fit through it) to sprint in from 22 metres.
Cosh, whilst still chuckling to himself, slotted the conversion to end the game 26-5
Credit needs to go to the referee who was consistent and let the game flow.
Stand out performers for Sidcup:
The Front Row - dominant at scrum time, 5/6 against the head!!
Jordan Eiffert - energetic and abrasive
Kiaresh (K2) - impressive debut
Mark Watson - had his kicking boots on and ran game well
Luke Taylor - a handful in attack and defence
A hard earned victory for the Super 3s.
Massive thank you for all involved, especially those that didn't get gametime today!
