Farewell Lukey!!! again

Sidcup 3s 29 vs Thanet 2s 12
The Sidcup team left for Thanet without a number of their regular stalwarts, Dave Price and Dave Jones to name just 2. The team was bolstered by the attendance of Luke Drury, however, whose departure for the high seas was delayed, again!
This was one of the most frustrating error strewn games I have ever been involved in. Both teams managing to drop more passes than they caught.
Sidcup, as in recent weeks, dominated the possession and territory throughout the match and should have come away with a more emphatic victory.
In the first half Thanet strayed offside on half way, after kicking to touch Sidcup won the line out 5m out. The rolling maul failed to make it's usual impact but after a couple of phases Trevor Pooley smashed over for Sidcup's only try of the half, Cosh converting.
Thanet responded with a try of their own, a decent move with them moving the ball through the hands to score out wide, the conversion missed.
The half ended with he score 16 - 5 to Cup, Cosh having added 2 penalties and a drop goal throughout the half.
The 2nd half was possibly worse than the 1st in terms of dropped passes and mistakes. It was made almost unbearable by the referee who failed to see a number of blatant infringements from Thanet. One resulting in a try for them after Dan Evans was tripped whilst trying to clear his lines.
Sidcup did manage to add an unconverted try from Jack Jacobs and a penalty however to pull out a lead.
With the last play of the game Sidcup won a line out and for the first time in the game the ball was successfully moved through more than 2 pairs of hands without being dropped and Charlie May finished it off nicely in the corner. Cosh missing the last kick of the game.
Although Cup thoroughly deserved the victory, the team were not satisfied with the performance. The line out and driving maul was not as effective as it should have been and the back line failed to inspire.
There are positives to take from this though. The older heads knew what needed to be done to ground out the win and even with the worst performance of the year the team never looked like losing.
Although he dropped the ball with a clear run to the line Jack Jacobs had a good game at outside centre. Making up for it with his score later in the game and tackling well.
Hanky was, as always, a thorn in the side of the opposition and Billy Wilson made some impressive runs.
Well done to all involved!
TOGA!! TOGA!! TOGA!!
Next week is going to be a tough test, Blackheath 3s have been withdrawn from the league above, so their 4s may now be stronger than previous results suggest.
