Farewell Lukey!!

With Luke Drury soon off to play hide and seek with Jack Sparrow it was the first game as skipper for James Cosh, excuse the pun.
Despite late pull outs and ridiculous but futile attempts to pull out the 3s fielded a strong team for this week's clash away at Old Dunstonians.
The first 20 minutes of the match were dominated by Sidcup in respect to territory and possession. Unfortunately, an uncharacteristic lack of precision and a couple of missed speculative penalties meant the game remained scoreless.
Eventually the pressure told and after a sustained period on the Old Duns line, wily old fly half Bazza Jackson switched to the blind side and shipped the ball onto Kev Pooley, the giant 2nd row screeched into the corner scoring with all the flair of a seasoned winger, all that was missing was the Ash Splash.
Soon after Jonesy crashed over for his trade mark try from close range,  Coshie knocked over a penalty and the half ended with Sidcup leading 15-0.
The hard work admirably put in by Old Duns  had clearly taken it's toll on them. This combined with Sidcup's improved performance, culminated in a flurry of tries early on in the 2nd half. A notable score being that of ageing all rounder Hanky. After a quick tap by Cosh was spun wide to Dan Evans, he sold the Old Duns back line an excellent dummy and allowed Hanky an easy finish from the resulting 2 on 1 with the full back.
Captain Cosh then had to retire from the game with a calf strain, Jonesy  stepping up to play 9 and immediately,in Mike Phillips fashion, burst through a gap to score under the sticks.
Sidcup then put on what can only be described as a rugby masterclass. Starting in their own half with an attack from deep from the excellent Stealth, every player managed to get their hands on the ball in a passage of play the Fijian 7s team would aspire to, including an audacious switch in the midfield by big boy props Slouchy and Lukey. Unfortunately the move broke down after at least 25 passes/offloads with a knock on 5 metres out.
This set the tone for the remainder of the game, however,  with a number of tries being scored and the final result being 56-0 to the visitors.
There was not a poor performance from the team, however special mentions need to go out to the Pooleys, both playing well. The back 3 of Stealth, Charlie and Luke, continued by Liam, were excellent and Whitford showed his ever present class at 8.
Well done lads, a good start for my temporary tenure as captain and a fitting farewell to Lukey.
Next week is a fun bus trip to Thanet!
