Super 3's pull off a late victory
The Super 3's were all looking forward to this game having been generously supplied with transportation via the club but unfortunately with Dovers 2's fixture cancelled this was always likely too be a challenging clash.
The fearless leader stepped up too the centre and lost the toss so we had the pleasure of an easy start with the slope too our advantage and the sun too our back. Easy so we thought but we were swiftly proved wrong with some excellent play from the home side. I say excellent but we did make it easy for them with one penalty after another (to be fair to the team 50% of these were mythical) giving the home side decent possession and territory. Dover took an early lead with a 6-0 advantage but Sidcup battled back with tit for tat scoring and managed too reach half time only 16-14 down and amazingly with 15 men on the pitch seeing as hancox , cosh and burke had done their best to alienate the ref with their incessant ranting !
The second half was another tight affair but Sidcups old time pack took more possession and control in the second half with the backline also controlling more in the deep. Too be fair the whole team showed Great Spirit and determination and I was proud of the way every one of them battled to bring us back into the game uphill with the low bright sun in our eyes. With 20minutes left too play we were 21-14 down just one score behind, this is when everybody really stepped up too the plate and wave after wave of Sidcup players was sent crashing against the Dover defence who did their best too hold strong but finally Sidcup broke through and scored the third try of the game Cosh stepped up with another great conversion and brought the game level at 21 all.
The final 5 minutes saw unrelentless pressure from the unforgiving Sidcup team and Dover cracked in the final play of the match giving a penalty 10 metres right of the posts in the 22 . Again up stepped Cosh and with his recent record nobody could have been blamed for being nervous, the pressure had also been racked up by most of the team shouting like loonies for everybody too calm down which was encapsulated by burkes Tasmanian devil impersonation on the wing (the uncensored one obviously) But fortunately Cosh stood calm in the madness and slotted between the posts too the sound of the final whistle marking a tremendous victory too keep the unbeaten run going !!!
