First home game of the season for the Sidcup U15 girls this Sunday! It was a very sunny and bitterly cold morning but spirits were high. It was a return match against Beccehamians, who the Sidcup girls had recently beat last month 34-27 after a very tight game. “We suspected that the Beccehamians girls would be more motivated to win this time, so we knew we had to up our game in order to win.”
Kickoff was 11:30 and Sidcup started with the disadvantage of the low sun in their eyes. This however did not stop the girls, who went on to score the first two tries of the match. The game started off with 12 players from both teams, however due to a few unfortunate injuries, most of the match Sidcup played with 11 or even 10 girls at some points, including the crucial final last minutes of the game. This meant that players had to step in and play positions that they weren't used to! The girls showed great resilience and teamwork despite these challenges. From a spectator’s perspective, the game was very exciting to watch and a very close game. Great rugby was shown from both teams with Sidcup executing some excellent tackles and defending the try line until the very end, with multiple tries stopped from being placed down. In the final minutes of the game, Sidcup needed to score 2 tries to win and although the girls were feeling quite worn out, they persevered and managed to score those tries! Throughout the match, Sidcup scored a total of 7 tries, each by a different player, with the final score being 35-32 to Sidcup. It was a very close game overall and intense to play and watch. Thanks to everyone who came to support and to both teams for a great game.
