U13 Falcons take flight
By Stuart Walker
Colfes fall prey to Falcons
Enough bird analogies....
Always a good tight match vs our friends from Old Colfeians but well played to Sidcup U13s and especially our Falcons side who gained a hard fought, richly deserved and morale boosting win in their match. More on that in a moment.
The Eagles team put in a Jekyll and Hyde performance in their match - the wind playing its part in upsetting our accuracy which has been good the last few weeks. Colfes were snappier at the breakdown and had some real pace in their back line to win the first half 4 tries to 1. The second half was a different story with much more aggression and structure in our play and we were on the front foot throughout, winning that period 3-1 and so a narrow 4-5 defeat. Man of that match Max DL for his powerful carrying and special mention to Leo from Colfes - great attitude and commitment throughout.
The Falcons game was the best display that team have put together all season; and I really hope it gives them confidence for the rest of the season. Some of the more experienced players led from the front, Jonathan setting a captains example throughout and supported by the likes of Lewis and Luke. In the first half after being a try up they then found themselves 2-1 down. Previously chins would’ve dropped but today they puffed out their chests and at times dominated their opponents, running out 6-3 winners in the end. Particular mentions to Madalin and Jack M in midfield, to Kyle for great handling in the swirling wind but my man of that match Josh Green for his never say die attitude. The whole team should be proud of their performance ; I know the coaches were.
So if you add the two games together an aggregate 10-8 win for Sidcup and a great workout for all concerned. Thanks to Mike, Bruce and Rob from Colfes and to all our supporters especially those who helped serve post match food.
