In a low scoring game at Croydon RFC, Sidcup Vets overcame a strong challenge from Weybridge Vandals to win a nail biting contest by 6 points to 5.
Two penalties, one in each half from full back Simon Hirst-Marsden were just enough to ensure the team won the silverware. Chances we few and far between for both sides and Vandals will be ruing the decisions to try to batter their way over the line on two early occasions rather than taking easy points available from penalties in front of the posts. Strong Sidcup defence kept the score at 3-0 at half time.
Early in the second half, Vandals scored the only try of the game out wide to their left. The two teams largely cancelled each other out during much of the second half as the play moved from one 22 to the other without either team being able to create a clear scoring opportunity. A final pop at goal from wide right by Vandals was the last kick of the game but the attempted drifted across the front of the posts and the referee signalled full time and a win for Sidcup Vets.
After many seasons of playing together, it is unlikey that this group will play together again. One or two players have decided - at last - to call it day while others are moving on. This win was a long time coming but all the sweeter for it.

A big thank you to all the players and supporters for making President's Day such a success. It was nice to see families at the club enjoying the Easter sunshine. Thanks to Peter Winterbottom for making the presentations.
The match was good to watch, 'a feast of rugby tries' and no injuries on such a hard playing surface, maybe the odd scratch or two!
We will be sending a cheque to Ty-Gobaith Children's Hospice for £400.
